Law of Attraction - More on Money and Budgets
By Sonia Miller | September 4, 2008
Here are some practical tips for using budgets and spread sheets in conjunction with the Law of Attraction (see my previous post for a bit more context…)
1) When you’re budgets and spreadsheets are complete, think about adopting a ritual of affirmations: practice a few affirmations and gratitude:
"Thank you for the abundance that circulates through our lives. This (meaning the financial figures) or something better!
"Source is my ONLY supply. I allow infinite abundance to express BEYOND this boundaries of this budget!"
"Thank you for the ability to circulate my money in these ways AND I am TOTALLY open to flow and abundance circulating through my life in new and unexpected ways!"
2) When unexpected money flows - enjoy and give thanks. Remember the energy of gratitude creates a snowball effect. The more you acknowledge and give thanks for that which you have, the more the Universe sends your way. Like attracts like. When you live from a place of "having" the Universe gives you "more having."
3) And, as for a practical budgeting technique consider incorporating funds and accounts for unexpected money and unexpected expenses. For example, you could have a two-tiered budget: Tier #1 is a plan for "predictable income and expenses. With Tier #2 create a formula where you allocate unexpected funds by certain percentages (i.e. 10% for tithing, 20% for fun, 30% for emergencies 40% for longer-term savings). In this way you can use the budget as a guideline, but still stay open to the flow.

Law of Attraction - Money and Budgets
By Sonia Miller | September 2, 2008
My Law of Attraction Success Circles have many members focusing on prosperity. One member posted this great questions that I just had to share here!
Q: I have been wanting to create a budget as part of my goal around work, money, & creativity. However, I have been trying to parse out in my mind if budgets are "allowed" by LOA. By this I mean, how do I, or can I even, create a budget that shows me the ‘reality’ of my family’s money income, alongside my family’s financial commitments that still allows for ‘flow’ in terms of money issues?…"
A: This question points to the challenge and the opportunity inherent in integrating two very different bodies of knowledge: 1) spiritual/metaphysical and 2) business/finance.
Spiritual practice, designed to keep one open to prosperity, answers questions like: How do I release fear of scarcity? How do I trust? How can I believe in an infinite supply? How to I stay out of my own way to allow the experience of prosperity?
Business tools like budgets and spread sheets answer questions like: Where’s the money coming from? Where is it going? What’s the best way to spend it? How do I cut expenses?
Without deeper understanding, a businessperson would say that the metaphysical approach to prosperity is fiscally irresponsible at best. And a spiritual practitioner might find budgets and spreadsheets to be completely limiting, and may even perpetuate the fear that creates resistance to flow. The key is to understand that BOTH bodies of knowledge require two different skill sets, that when used together integrate spiritual truth into one’s physical experience of money.
The spiritual skill set ALLOWS the flow of abundance, which is your true nature, to express in your life. The business skill set lets you manage and direct the flow in practical ways. Both skill sets offer helpful tools. BUT if one set of skills gets distorted and hurts your ability to practice the other set of skills effectively, THEN you need to adjust.
For example, budgets lend themselves to the energy of CONTROL. To be a good accountant, everything must balance to the penny. You need to know where the money is coming from and where it is going. The problem here occurs when you think you need to know HOW everything is going to happen with your money. Remember, when it comes to the Law of Attraction you focus on WHAT you want and the Universe handles the HOW.
So, the best approach is to lighten up around the budgets. Think of them as guidelines rather than rules. Use them to set and direct your intention, but once they are complete for the week or the month let them go and keep practicing the spiritual techniques that nurturing your oneness with Source.
Stay tuned for more practical tips for integrating budgets with the Law of Attraction.

Law of Attraction - Tithing Q & A
By Sonia Miller | August 29, 2008
I’ve had numerous people email me with questions about tithing. I don’t claim to be the expert on the subject, but from I have read, and more importantly experienced, I do believe there is a spiritual principle at work when one acknowledges Source as the source of ALL abundance through the act of circulating back 10% of one’s blessings. Please comment below with your thoughts and ideas on the subject.
Q:
I’m somewhat confused about tithing. I understand the principle. It’s the details that twist me around. I use to tithe 10% to different environmental organizations. It seems the more you gift them, the more they solicit. More wasted paper, and seemingly greed (or so it felt to me) with the "more, more MORE!" way of interacting with contributors.
I don’t belong to nor even really believe in the concept of "church" but I do understand that as a place many people find their spiritual support. Gifting directly to people speaks to me more personally. Food bank, grassroots efforts at replanting rainforest (individuals, not organizations), helping people help themselves (KIVA, Habitat for Humanity), and gifting massage services makes me feel like I’m contributing to the higher vibration of the planet. Tithing is "supposed" to be selfless, yet I see that we also do it to benefit ourselves by re-circulating that 10% to not get "stuck" ourselves, and also get the warm fuzzies from helping others. Or is it the warm fuzzies that indicate we’re tithing in the right direction?
A:
Spiritual teachings do make a distinction between "giving in general" and tithing to your "source of spiritual nourishment."
A few books I’d recommend are Spiritual Economics by David Butterworth, The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity by Catherine Ponder, and "I’m Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams. I am. I am. I am." by Thomas Pauley.
As for me, I always look at the vibration beneath the thoughts, emotions and actions related to my choices. If you can get to the point where you identify if there is an energy of resistance or allowing, then you’ll be able to connect with the higher truth of it all.
There are a wide array of opinions about tithing, complete with religious strings attached and the emotional and mental energies of guilt, obligation, and judgment. However, if there is one thing I know for sure it is this: If you are not giving your tithes from a place of true gratitude and acknowledgement for all that you have, for all of your blessings, then whatever your vibration is when you give, so will be your experience.
Tithing is not like making monthly "protection" premiums to the mafia - "Okay God, if I pay you 10% you’ll take care of me, right?" Although some may feel that it works out that way. Tithing is a spiritual practice to remind you that your only Source of supply is Source Energy. Tithing is a discipline that pushes you to connect with gratitude, to remember that you ARE taken care of. Tithing is an opportunity let go of the tendency to control every little thing because you are "trying to survive, and instead to surrender in trust to the flow of life - to trust in the ebb and flow of things. Supply (money) follows the rhythms of nature - the ocean goes in and out, the moon waxes and wanes, the seasons offer bounty and go dormant - back and forth, flow.
And… on a more practical note, as long as you tithe to Your Source of spiritual nourishment, no matter what it looks like (i.e. The Sierra Club if that is how you connect with Spirit), and you do it with the intention of practicing higher spiritual principles, then tithing will bless you with more than warm and fuzzies, it will strengthen your relationship with Source as the source of your well-being under all conditions.

How to Break Through Your Prosperity Blocks
By Sonia Miller | August 21, 2008
Prosperity has little to do with money. Rather, it has everything to do with what money means to you and how you relate to those representations. Money, like everything else in the Universe is simply energy. It is an expression of love. If you trust it, enjoy it, play with it joyfully, nurture it, and above all else circulate it, the money - as love - flourishes and multiplies. If however, you control it, distrust it, or fear it, you are likely to squelch it and possibly kill it. You can’t actually ever kill money (or love for that matter), but you can collapse the channel through which it flows until it has no choice but to flow elsewhere.
When you shift your approach to prosperity from a money focus to a mind-set focus you can then begin to uncover the truth about your relationship to this infinite supply. The best way to do this is to take a mental inventory of your thoughts about and reactions to money. In other words you challenge your prosperity consciousness.
The Challenge
The Prosperity Challenge is a series of six fill-in-the blank statements which reveal your automatic thoughts and emotions in relationship to money. Each step should be answered completely before moving on to the next statement. If approached with honesty and thoughtfulness you will shed light on your hidden money fears and beliefs. The six statements are listed below, followed by sample responses to help you connect to your own answers:
1) I feel good in my relationship with money when the following events occur…
I get paid on time
I have money in my savings account
I have no credit card debt
My x-spouse sends the child support payment
My bank statement exceeds $50,000
I can take my lady friends out on impressive dates2) When these events occur I feel… (list your feelings)
powerful
safe
in control
free
good about myself
worthy3) This is because I believe….
money in the bank will keep me safe if something bad happens
my bank account is the only thing keeping from being homeless
in the end, I can only rely on myself
good things never last4) I feel bad in my relationship with money when the following events occur…
a funding source disappears
surprise expenses pop up and I don’t have the money to pay for it
when I spend my hard earned cash
my bank account dwindles
my flow of money becomes unpredictable
I have to use my savings for an emergency (even though that’s what it is for)5) When these events occur I feel… (list your feelings)
like I’m losing something
vulnerable
unsafe
out of control
stupid
like a loser6) This is because I believe…
my value as a person is related to how much money I have
that when I can’t control things something bad will happen
when I’m in control, I’m safe
you can’t count on anyone
What This Means
If you take the Prosperity Challenge you will gain some valuable insights about the conscious and unconscious beliefs that have been controlling you. While you may gain some answers, you may also uncover many more questions. If so, let the Prosperity Challenge take you to the next level and drill down for more insight. Here are more questions to explore:
- Why do I believe this?
- Is it really true?
- How do I know this is true?
- Is it possible that there is a higher truth?
- What could the higher truth be?
- The Truth About Truth
A process like this will lead you through layers of “truth.” In order to break through to higher truth, you must peel through personal truth. Sometimes these will be aligned. Other times what you think is true is actually only a limited, human belief. The key to cultivating a prosperity consciousness is to sift through limiting ideas to uncover and align with highest spiritual truth.
Warning: You can not do this on your own. You must have some influx of new information. Otherwise, you’ll keep doing what you’ve been doing because it is all you know. And, if you’re really serious about creating prosperity in your life, the influx must be steady and consistent. Whether you always have a book on your bedside, an audio program in your car, or you study with a teacher or coach, the only way to move into a new way of life, is to let go of the old while reaching for something better as a substitute.
The Truth About Prosperity
Whether you’re new to the truth about prosperity or not, here are a few higher truths for you to contemplate.
- There is only ONE unifying ocean of energy that is the substance of All That Is.
- There is nothing that is apart from this ONE energy.
- The natural state of this ONE energy is infinite, limitless abundance in the form of love, money… all that is good.
- Because there is only ONE, you, by definition are a part of this one. There is no separation. You are made up of the same substance. You ARE infinite abundance.
- The only thing that keeps you from experiencing this infinite abundance is your awareness.
- As you release the limiting beliefs that comprise your mind-set, you free yourself to see and experience your true nature.
- The more you are willing to consider these ideas, while dismantling your limiting beliefs, the more you will allow infinite love in the form of money to flow through your life.

Spiritual Economics by Eric Butterworth - Recommended Resource
By Sonia Miller | August 17, 2008
If you’re serious about expanding your prosperity consciousness then Eric Butterworth’s book, Spiritual Economics: The Principles and Process of True Prosperity is a must-read.
As an avid student of metaphysics, conscious creation and the Law of Attraction I’m always on the look out for a resource that will teach me something I don’t know, or at very least present it in a way that will allow me to go deeper. This book GOES DEEP.
I will often read one sentence and re-read 3 more times in my attempt to really GROCK its true meaning - not the meaning I may have associated with the statement in the past, but the meaning that is the next stretch in my awareness.
You can’t just read about prosperity consciousness and not be willing to take it in with the intention of letting it stimulate a new way of BEING.
Here is one my the ones I’m really chewing on right now:
"In the teaching of Truth, there is a lot of emphasis given to "making demonstrations" (i.e. manifesting results)… It is a term used in scientific prayer, the concept that if you get certain things worked out within your consciousness, you are going to "outform" or manifest them in your experience. Answered prayer, then, is a "demonstration." In the science of prayer, nothing is incurable or beyond help; all things are possible. It is a tremendously important realization.
However, in the minds of many students, it is a matter of making divine law work. You can’t make law work. Law is an inexorable process… It is not something you do to God or even something that God does especially for you. It is simply a change of your consciousness in which you become synchronized with the ceaseless activity of divine love, of healing life, or of prospering substance."
In my view this teaching is aligned with the idea that we don’t actually CREATE anything. "IT" already exists. It always has and always will. Our job, is to expand our awareness to a) see it and b) allow it into our experience. For this reason my favorite style of affirmation is SO powerful: The Willingness Mantra (check out my book, The Attraction Distraction for an in-depth exploration of this). By simply becoming willing to recognize and see what you have not seen before, you begin to lift the veil of illusion!

Law of Attraction - "See? I Knew It! This Stuff Doesn’t Work After All!"
By Sonia Miller | August 8, 2008
Have you ever had this experience?
You get really clear about a life dream or goal. You own it. You declare it to yourself and the Universe. Maybe you write it down. Maybe you make a commitment to go for it. Maybe you put it on your vision board. You start visualizing. You raise your vibration. You’re doing it!
Then suddenly EVERYTHING falls apart! Money stops flowing right. You clients’ checks start bouncing. Your car breaks down, then the hot water heater, then the tv. A status quo relationship suddenly blows up. You think to yourself, "I finally decide to go for my big dreams and THIS happens!?" What the (%$#^$)! Why did I even let myself want this? See! This Law of Attraction stuff doesn’t work. Not only that, but life has gotten worse!"
SCREEECH…. Hooooold your horses! BEFORE you give up on life, your dreams, and the Law of Attraction please read this.
This sort of thing happens ALL THE TIME. And it is a predictable part of the process of expansion. Carol Dore, Visualization Expert calls it Falling Apart, Falling Together in reference to the idea that often when you get clear about your intentions things fall apart before they fall into place. Thomas Pauley of www.RichDreams.com calls it Chemicalization and he writes about it in his book, I’m Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams. I am. I am. I am.
He uses the analogy of planting a garden of every beautiful plant you could imagine. The seeds are in the ground. The sun is shining. The birds are chirping. And you anticipate an abundance of magnificent blossoms. (In other words, you’ve set all of your life’s intentions into motion using metaphysical tools and techniques and now you enthusiastically await their manifestation.) However, despite the current pleasant weather conditions, "sooner or later the rain sets in. The skies will darken as clouds cover the sun. Lightning and thunder will quiet the birds, and for a while it may seem as though the sky is falling… The truth is, you’re in for nothing more than a little wet weather."
The mistake many seekers make is that they misinterpret this often-common phenomenon as a sign that:
- None of this works!
- I’ve been led astray!
- I’ve failed!
- I’m doomed!
So, they quit before the miracle. They let their vibration sink. And they go back to their old consciousness, which only perpetuates more of what they were trying to change in the first place.
As Pauley explains it:
"We live in a world governed by natural laws. The foremost of which is cause and effect. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Growth is organic. Growth requires change… The process of change that must first occur before you can have the prosperity you desire is called Chemicalization. It is the stirring of the pot that makes the soup. It is an actual chemical change. Chemical change is necessary for creation. Water, for example, is a combination of hydrogen and oxygen. Separately, they are two gasses; together they make a liquid. All of Creation, including you and me, is made of chemicals. If you are not rich now and you want to be rich, then you must undergo a chemical change. By definition you want to be different than you are now. The things around you must also undergo a chemical change. This is as basic as life itself."
And how exactly do you navigate these times of change? You do whatever it takes! You go deeper in your faith. You look for and find evidence that you are still alive, still okay, still being cared for. You put one foot in front of the other. You keep studying and learning and reading and listening to anything that keeps you moving forward not backward. And TRUST that this too shall pass. Because the only thing that is constant in this Universe is change.
Don’t quite before the miracle. If you stay the course, you and your life will come out the other side bigger for it.

Law of Attraction - When EVERYTHING Falls Apart!
By Sonia Miller | August 2, 2008
My friend and client recently wrote me to share the TREMENDOUS news that her big life dream of becoming a nurse had finally been realized. I KNEW the road she had traveled and I asked her to write a success story for my Soul Food Ezine. She shared the following story of passing through and surviving the ring of fire and I knew I had to write a post about it because it addresses a common phenomenon in the manifestation process. Carol Dore calls it the "Falling Apart Falling Together" phase. Thomas Pauley refers to it as "Chemicalization." Whatever you call it, it feels like everything that can go wrong GOES WRONG.
But in actuality, when you dare to become a bigger version of you, aspects of the OLD you need to fall away. It is much like a death and rebirth. And, as we’ve seen in the life cycles of human beings, sometimes (not always) both the dying process and the birthing process can be painful. The way we reduce the pain is to understand it, trust it, and practice tools to navigate the transitions.
With her permission, Martha’s email is below. Read on as she shares what happened in the process of crossing the final finish line of taking her state boards to become a nurse!
"Hola Sonia! I would love to write my success story for you! What in particular do you want me to focus on? Not quitting the six long years it took me to become a nurse, or actually passing the state boards?
Speaking of the boards, about 30 minutes before I went in to take it….I was getting increasingly nervous and my stress levels were immeasurable!! I knew I needed to try to bring it down and somehow summon the courage to get through this and to allow my brain to actually think through the most important exam of my life. I could literally feel my confidence go down hill and my focus getting narrow instead of open and broad. I was going ’round and ’round in my head, being hard on myself, feeling worse and worse, and thinking, "Martha you are attracting failure."
I needed to do something quick and suddenly, I thought of tapping (EFT) and the success I had with you. I remember how when the emotions were so overwhelming and strong, the tapping brought them down and eased my heart and mind….so I knew that for what its worth I would give it a try on my own….so, I went to the ladies room and locked myself in a stall and started tapping!!!! All the while wishing like crazy that YOU were in the stall with me (perhaps you were in spirit) !!! I tapped the very basic content I could remember….memories of our sessions came to me; rating my emotions, tapping at certain landmarks, feeling grounded to mother earth, the top of my head open and sunlight and energy coming in and dispersing through out my body into effervescent bubbles…. I focused on the "feelings" and also I imagined that this is what my "nursing knowledge" would do when faced with each question on the exam, that it would just flow like those bubbles.
Then when I went in to take the exam… all the centering and softness I felt dissipated and there I was facing the computer taking my test and feeling powerless, not trusting and certain that I was failing with each click of the button….honestly, I REALLY don’t know how I made it through the four hours and 15 minutes of the torturous test. I wanted to quit so badly and tears were on the verge of spilling over. I found most of the questions extremely difficult and complex. I was not able to "think" At one point I just put my head into my hands and almost went "there." I almost gave up…but I knew I need to at least finish the darn test.
Waiting for three days before I got my results was beyond overwhelming. I haven’t cried like that in years Sonia. I cried in the shower, I cried at the grocery store, I cried when my guy would call (especially just hearing his voice), I went to the cave and cried and cried for those three days, total pity party. I guess I needed to release all that was there from who knows how long.
I was so sure I’d failed, that I couldn’t bring myself to check the results on line.
Then in the hours of the morning, my phone rang. I heard my guy’s voice. He said, "You’re a nurse." He went online and found out for me!
Finally, an "official" nurse; the nurse that I’ve always felt I am!"

The Law of Attraction and Prosperity - More Epiphanies!
By Sonia Miller | July 31, 2008
In addition to the "aha" I had around tithing, in his book, I’m Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams! I am. I am. I am., Thomas Pauley tells us that if you use his system for spiritual prosperity there are THREE possible ways you might sabotage your new-found prosperity by spending incorrectly.
1) Failing to Tithe (i.e. spending God’s money on yourself)
2) Playing God - (i.e. saving other people)
3) Hoarding (i.e. saving for the wrong reasons)
Regarding #1 above, I shared in my previous post how I had realized that I was "sort of" tithing, but not to the full and complete 10% level all the time. So, although my hubby and I were no longer struggling, we were also not really allowing ourselves to experience prosperity to our fullest potential.
Regarding #2, fortunately, we haven’t really fallen into that pitfall. Although there have been many times in the kitchen when we’ve visualize out loud together about what we’d do with our lottery win. There is a lot of "giving money away to family" that we talk about. With this latest insight, we’ll think carefully about the most correct ways to give money to family.
And, #3 - this led to another epiphany! Something I was quite conscious of in one regard, but had blinders on in another regard…
I have always thought of "saving" as a good thing. I wouldn’t say that I’ve ever been particularly good at it, but I’ve certainly gotten better at it since about the time we started tithing. However, Pauley’s discussing on "hoarding" and "saving for the wrong reasons" made me realize that under the guise of "being responsible, I was actually putting out a vibration of fear and separation into the Universe. You know how it works: Like attracts like:
So, if I put out, I’m afraid I won’t have enough money for xyz, I should save for a rainy day, I’ll attract back, rainy days and lack of funds.
Not only that, but by becoming obsessed with having money in the bank I’m engaging in one of the 4 Attraction Distractions which I discuss in length in my book, The Attraction Distraction. This distraction is attachment. My vibration into the Universe is one of my Source of money is outside of me. It is in the bank account. I am separate from my money. I have to "control" it because I can’t count on it being there. Like attracts like and I get all of that back in my experience: money is separate from me. I am separate from my source. I can’t count on it being there.
The most powerful consciousness with money is that of ONENESS with it. Understanding that SOURCE is my only Source of money - not my bank account or any other channel. There is only ONE Source and Infinite Channels! Infinite supply is forever available to me. I don’t need to control it. We control things only when we believe in finite conditions, lack and scarcity.
So, now I still set aside some reserve money, but no longer feel the need to have $X in the bank to feel safe. Now, at yet a deeper level (the deepening never ends) I trust in Source as my Infinite Supply.
