Law of Attraction – Distraction #1 – Your Ego

Recognizing Your Ego
Recognizing your ego is a journey of expanding your awareness. I recall understanding the idea that I had an ego years before I actually recognized my ego. I remember, oh so well, that aha moment when I thought to myself, “Ooooooh, so THAT’s what my ego looks like – ugh.” Recognizing your ego can be quite tricky, for it doesn’t always show up in the most obvious of ways. And although there are signs and expressions of ego that show up in behaviors, it takes more than that to become an effective ego-spotter.

When Your Ego Does Not Serve You
Your ego is that part of you that maintains the illusion that you are separate from Source. When you feel separate from source, you feel alone. You disconnect from your Source of love, safety and supply. So, your perspective moves into an illusory world of limitation – a world where supply of all things is finite, a world where love and support are conditional, a world where your self-perception is dictated by comparison to others and is based in a perception of limitation.

When you are caught in the illusion of ego, you will think you are your ego. Your ego will protect and defend you in your illusion of separateness. This means that when your ego is governing your consciousness and perception, you’ll find yourself driven to be right or make your point at the expense of harmony in relationships. You’ll find yourself driven to win at the expense of someone having to lose. You’ll feel better about yourself when you think you are better than others. You’ll crave external credit or acknowledgement at the cost of a deeper inner experience of fulfillment. You might find yourself feeling possessive or territorial, either because you believe there’s not enough to go around, or because you need external things, which you attach to yourself to validate your worth. And in general, there will be a part of you that is insatiable, needing or wanting more, more, more because you feel there’s never enough.

Stay tuned for more on The Ego.
