Law of Attraction – Money and Budgets

By Sonia Miller | September 2, 2008

My Law of Attraction Success Circles have many members focusing on prosperity.  One member posted this great questions that I just had to share here!

Q:  I have been wanting to create a budget as part of my goal around work, money, & creativity. However, I have been trying to parse out in my mind if budgets are "allowed" by LOA.  By this I mean, how do I, or can I even, create a budget that shows me the ‘reality’ of my family’s money income, alongside my family’s financial commitments that still allows for ‘flow’ in terms of money issues?…"

A: This question points to the challenge and the opportunity inherent in integrating two very different bodies of knowledge: 1) spiritual/metaphysical and 2) business/finance.

Spiritual practice, designed to keep one open to prosperity, answers questions like: How do I release fear of scarcity?  How do I trust?  How can I believe in an infinite supply?  How to I stay out of my own way to allow the experience of prosperity?

Business tools like budgets and spread sheets answer questions like: Where’s the money coming from? Where is it going?  What’s the best way to spend it?  How do I cut expenses?

Without deeper understanding, a businessperson would say that the metaphysical approach to prosperity is fiscally irresponsible at best.  And a spiritual practitioner might find budgets and spreadsheets to be completely limiting, and may even perpetuate the fear that creates resistance to flow.   The key is to understand that BOTH bodies of knowledge require two different skill sets, that when used together integrate spiritual truth into one’s physical experience of money.

The spiritual skill set ALLOWS the flow of abundance, which is your true nature, to express in your life.  The business skill set lets you manage and direct the flow in practical ways.  Both skill sets offer helpful tools.  BUT if one set of skills gets distorted and hurts your ability to practice the other set of skills effectively, THEN you need to adjust.

For example, budgets lend themselves to the energy of CONTROL.  To be a good accountant, everything must balance to the penny.  You need to know where the money is coming from and where it is going.  The problem here occurs when you think you need to know HOW everything is going to happen with your money.  Remember, when it comes to the Law of Attraction you focus on WHAT you want and the Universe handles the HOW.

So, the best approach is to lighten up around the budgets.  Think of them as guidelines rather than rules.  Use them to set and direct your intention, but once they are complete for the week or the month let them go and keep practicing the spiritual techniques that nurturing your oneness with Source.

Stay tuned for more practical tips for integrating budgets with the Law of Attraction.
