Law of Attraction – Prosperity Fundamentals #1

By Sonia Miller | September 7, 2008

I’ve been reading Eric Butterworth’s book, Spiritual Economics.  Given a busy summer and family matters it has been slow-going.  But that’s probably a good thing because this book is like playing in the sand at the beach and discovering a small treasure every time you scoop another handful.

Something about this book won’t let me plow through it.  I seem to read 1 – 2 pages at a time at most and on every page there is at least one pearl of wisdom – a fundamental concept about how the Universe works regarding prosperity.  Every time I highlight it I think, I need to blog about this and go deeper with it.  So, here we go.  If all goes according to plan I’ll be addressing some of these fundamental concepts for a while.

For today:

"The word affluence is an overworked word in our time, usually implying cars and houses and baubles of all kinds.  Its literal meaning is "an abundant flow," and not things at all.  When we are consciousnly centered in the universal flow, we experience inner direction and the unfoldment of creative activity.  Things come too, but prosperity is not just having things.  It is the consciousness that attracts things." (p. 9)

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about this because in the last two months I declared to the Universe, "I’m going to the next level of prosperity."  And, as is often the case, as soon as I did that and began taking inspired action two things happened: 1) I started manifesting all sorts of unexpected prosperous blessings, and 2) my finances got very chaotic – checks bouncing, unexpected expenses, mistakes in my register causing me to overspend… things that never happen.  (Mind you, I have a finance degree and am the anal-retentive bookkeeper by nature.  So, I took these sudden occurrences as "chemicalization" (see previous posts) and knew there was something for me to learn.)

I’ve had numerous epiphanies and they keep coming, but the most profound one was that I had a limiting belief around money that goes like this, "Control is good. Control = safety and security.  Out of control is bad.  Out of control is unsafe."

My tendency to attempt to control everything when it came to finances revealed the deeper vibration of fear and scarcity thinking.  It is one of the things that has kept my financial expansion at the current level.  And the biggest "Aha" I got was that I need to learn a whole new way of relating to money.  I needed to find a way to "be in the flow" and more importantly to "trust the flow."

This would mean trusting in the flow…

- even when I can’t see the evidence

- even when it ebbs and flows like the tide

- even when I feel out of control and safe

- even when I thought I knew everything about "responsible fiscal management" and had to let it go.

Prosperity truly is not about how much money you have in your savings, whether or not you stay within your budget, how many toys you have, whether or not you have credit card debt.  Prosperity is a state of deep trust in an abundant Universe.  It is about feeling so loved by Source Energy that you simply KNOW and EXPECT your good to flow to you.  It is about being so grateful for all  you have that you can’t wait to circulate it back to others.

How about you?  How do you define prosperity?  The more you are consciously willing to ponder this question, the more you’ll uncover the belief systems that limit what you will allow yourself to experience.

Choose Your Reality! tm

I love that definition of affluence — an abundant flow. That makes me feel much better about my financial situation. I don’t often manage to save much, but my bills get paid. Money flows in and money flows out, and it does that a lot. Many things flow in and out of my life in large quantities. I tend to think they have to hang around and accumulate for me to see myself as abundant and prosperous. Or, better said, I think they need to accummulate for long enough for me to feel abundant and prosperous…then I can allow some of it — mostly money — to be released. I love to share, to give, to tithe, but I feel the need to accummulate money and to meet my own needs first (understandably), and that seems to have influenced my view of how affluent, abundant or prosperous I am at any given time. However, when I see it just as flow, I can see that I am very affluent all the time. I still seem to need to have that flow pool up occassionally, though, so I can have enough to share!

    Hi Nina,

Thanks so much for your comment. I’m glad the post was helpful. You brought up a great point about “accumulation” or the idea of flow pooling up so that you have enough to share. One of the things I like to do when exploring the underlying vibration or consciousness beneath my actions is to ask myself, “Why?”

“Why do I need to have a savings account?” A coach recently had me ask, “How does this serve me or what I’m here to give?”

If your answer lies in scarcity, then it is a sign that you need to shift your thinking to something more abundant.

Instead of thinking, I need to have a savings account in case of an emergency, the belief is that you won’t be taken care of in an emergency (i.e. scarcity). However, if you see your savings account AS AN EXPRESSION of your abundance, AS AN EXPRESSION of your true nature, like the overflowing abundance of a fruit tree just before harvest, then you are emitting a vibration aligned with the natural state of abundance which is you and the Universe.

    Blessings!
    Sonia : )
