“However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act upon them?”

— Buddha

The path of service is a powerful, beautiful and meaningful one for expansion. Service is all about giving. It is powerful because giving, like gratitude, expresses the high vibration of: “I HAVE and I AM.” When you give, you express the vibration of: “I have love to give, I have time to give, I have talents to give, I am loving, I am generous, I am valuable.”

Many transformational experiences can unfold through being of service, if you have the correct intention behind the service. In order for service to contribute to your expansion, you must enter into service willing to give generously. You must give without expectation of anything in return, give for the sake of giving, give without thought of yourself, give without strings attached, and give without keeping score regarding what you’re getting back. The quality of giving is not in the amount you give, but in how you are being when you give. As Mother Teresa taught us, “It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters.”

Because giving expresses the I have and I am vibration, it is guaranteed that you will receive much through giving. The Law of Attraction makes it so. The irony is, it sounds contradictory to say in the same breath, “Through giving you will receive,” and, “You must give without any thought of yourself.” The key is this: It is one thing to have your desires motivate you to give, and an entirely different thing to give as a way of getting. If self-interest motivates you to be of service, great! “Yahoo!” for self-interest. Self-interest and ego are great motivators, after all. But once you’re motivated to give, then let yourself learn how to really give! Know it is in fully surrendering yourself to the experience of service that you will be transformed.

The possibilities for growth through service are many. If you’ve never before given selflessly, you will awaken and discover a part of yourself that you have never before experienced. Giving freely opens the heart so you may experience love in ways you’ve never known. If you’ve never given selflessly before, or have only known survival, self-interest or obligation, it is likely your ego or your wounds have played a big role in your life. When you start to give, and stretch to be of true service, your ego and your wounds will be revealed to you. Giving helps you integrate your ego. Giving helps you heal yourself. Your ego would have you believe that, in giving, you will lose the thing that you give. However, through service, you discover you are filled and blessed by that which you give. Being of service will reveal limiting thoughts and judgments – about yourself, about other s, about life and about the nature of the Universe. Once you uncover limiting beliefs, you then have the opportunity to challenge them and determine the deeper truth available for discovery.

Being of service will also activate the manifestation vibration. Again, the seeming contradiction appears: “If I’m to be other-focused, of selfless service, why should I care about man¬ifesting things in my own life?” The truth is, once you really get it about service, manifesting things will no longer become the motivating factor it was. Instead, you will manifest your de¬sires as a natural by-product of living a life of giving – where your consciousness consistently expresses the vibration of I have. Things you want and need will simply come to you, with little effort.

And so it is with the path of service. If you give freely, you will expand. You will discover and tap into all the unseen abundance that lives within you. You will circulate it freely, and it will come back to you multiplied.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is Hatred, let me sow Love.
Where there is Injury, Pardon.
Where there is Doubt, Faith

Where there is Despair, Hope.
Where there is Darkness, Light,
and Where there is Sadness, Joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
