The Law of Attraction and Prosperity – Do You Tithe?
By Sonia Miller | July 30, 2008
I just finished reading I’m Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams! I am. I am. I am., and am having fun experimenting with Thomas Pauley’s system for manifesting prosperity. It is all Law of Attraction based, so although there isn’t anything actually "new" to me, the book has definitely been inspirational and it has helped me look at things from a new angle.
Take the concept of tithing, for example. To "tithe" means to give 10% of of EVERY DOLLAR your receive to your source of spiritual nourishment. My husband and I started tithing a few years ago, and "coincidentally" (you know I’m joking with I say that, right?) what used to be common place financial struggle, simply ceased. Yes, we had a few minor stressors here and there, but basically we’ve been comfortable ever since.
However, real blow-the-roof-off prosperity kept eluding us. After reading Pauley’s book, I saw where I could go further.
#1) Although I was donating 10%, often times it was NOT to my source of spiritual nourishment. Often times, I was donating to whoever was asking for money at any given moment. Pauley makes a big distinction between tithing and giving. He tells us, "Before you pay any bills, before you put money in savings or pay taxes, you owe the Universe. Since all our good comes from God in the first place, it makes sense that we owe Him for what He has given us. You pay the grocery store for the food you take home. You pay the hairstylist who gives you a new look. You pay the real estate agent who sells your house. God is the source of all your good. The Guiding Force of Creation has given you everything. It has given you the food you eat, the house you live in, the livelihood that sustains your life. You owe everything you have to God. Giving back a portion of what you receive is more than good manners, it’s a Universal law. You owe the Universe 10%."
Pauley goes on to say that tithing is the single most important thing you can do to guarantee your success."
(Please note: I feel I should clarify that although Pauley refers to God as "Him," he is speaking spiritual, but non-religious terms.)
So, over the next few days, I started catching up with my tithing. I wrote a check for 10% of the tax refund we got. Then later, I realized I hadn’t tithed on some new revenue sources. Took care of that.
#2) Along with tithing, I started claiming my good each time I give – a tip, a gift, whatever. Pauley tells us that everything we give comes back to us tenfold returned. So he teaches us his way to really claim it. So, I’ve been having fun with that, too.
What’s happened since? All sorts of fun unexpected things. Twice now, I’ve arrived at a sales counter expecting to pay about $100 for back-to-school shopping or something else, and I was met with a completely unexpected sale or discount. I ended up paying between 25-30% less than anticipated. Also, I had a flash of inspiration about a change I could make on my web site and since then visitors have been signing up for my mailing list at an astronomical rate! And today, the gas pump gave me more gas than the attendant input into the machine. After all was said and done I got $16 worth of gas for free! I’d say this bodes well for Mr. Pauley’s system.
Stay tuned for more on expanding your prosperity consciousness!

Since you posted this for all to read I thought I would suggest an alternate approach to tithing. It is called New Covenant giving principles: freewill, sacrificial, generous, regular, joyful and motivated by love for God and man.
My web site has over 150 articles and came from my PHD dissertation. You should read the 20 point essay on the first page.
Thank you. May God bless you.

The perfect answer against monetary tithes is in Zechariah 11. It is the rebuke of the wrong choice taken in the exchange of Christ for thirty pieces of silver. “If you think good, give price (salary), if not, forbear (leave it alone).” The putting of money into the storehouse is the same as putting money into the manna pot. The fruit of the land took over the duties of the other bread, the manna (Joshua 5:12). If you would like to read some of my other works, look up DAVIS, Stephen on faithwriters.com. The tithe prophecy, ravenwolf, despising the gain of ‘maashaqqah’.

I am wondering… how do you determine who your source of spiritual nourishment is? I do not belong to a church, and my nourishment comes from many, many, MANY forms, but I am having a hard time figuring out what they are. Thanks!

Thanks for your question Janelle. It is a good one.
I think the important point to make is that it doesn’t have to be just one source. If you have multiple sources, you can tithe to multiple places. Either take turns each time you distribute the funds, or split it up.
If you are studying with a particular teacher for a while and then move on, tithe to that teacher or that organization for as long as it feels relevant. When you’ve moved on, redirect your tithing appropriately. As Catherine Ponder, prosperity teacher shares in her pamphlet “Prosperity Decrees”…
“I now tithe to the spiritual organizations (or individuals in spiritual work) from which I am receiving help and inspiration.”
For Catherine’s pamphlet write to:
Catherine Ponder, PO Drawer 1278, Palm Desert, California 92261.
She’s also got a book that is next on my reading list called The Dynamic Laws of Prosperity.
Hope this helps!

Regarding Stephen Davis’ Post Above:
Stephen – Sorry your post slipped by without aresponse. Just wanted to thank you for visiting and sharing your views. In all honesty, your input was a bit beyond my understanding. I guess we all have our teachers and vocabulary. Nonetheless, I really appreciate your comment. I’d like this blog to be a place where people from all perspectives can dialogue.
