Small Business Resources from a Spiritual Marketer

By Sonia Miller | January 18, 2008

In the mid-80’s I used to trade stocks and bonds at a Boston brokerage firm.  At the tender young age of 22, I still didn’t understand that life was to be lived and that I really be whoever I wanted to be. I had graduated college with a degree in finance believing that the most important thing in life was to land a financially secure job.

When I realized there was more to life, I asked myself what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I finally owned my life-long dream of being a counselor and within five years was on my way to San Francisco to pursue a masters degree in social work.

Talk about a pendulum swing! I went from doing $25,000,000 equity trades to helping migrant farm worker families get medical care. In my new-found job satisfaction I denounced business as “a bad thing” and went along living my life in service to others through volunteer work and my job.

Eventually, when I found myself wishing for the ease and freedom that greater prosperity offered, I found myself reevaluating my relationship with prosperity, and my judgments about money and work. Like many healer/service types, I couldn’t reconcile making money AND helping people. But after some deeper work dismantling my limiting beliefs, I came to learn that Source Energy is love, and that this love expresses in infinite forms of well-being including financial freedom.

My new vision for my life included spiritually satisfying work AND financial freedom.  My work intention has since become very specific: to joyfully help all the souls who want or need what I may have to offer, creating my own flexible schedule where I can enjoy and be available for my family, while experiencing ever-expanding prosperity as my work-load becomes lighter and more fun!

The Universe guided me to the world of information marketing. I quickly realized it was the perfect fit for all that I wanted to do and experience. Creating information products lets me reach people I could otherwise never reach with my one-on-one private practice. I get to write and geekie, technical things (two things I love), and because of the internet, I am able to reach a world-wide audience. All of this is on my schedule and on my terms (i.e. ultimate freedom)!

So, for the past two years I’ve immersed myself in the world of online marketing. As a result, I’m attracting other healers, coaches, and consultants who want to learn what I’ve been learning.

And so I’d like to highlight my first small business recommended resource – Virtual Assistants! If you have some kind of solo-business/practice and can use email, virtual assistants can be the answer to many of your administrative issues. As Chief Cook and Bottle Washer since 1996 I was doing it all:  life coach, counselor, healer, scheduler, bookkeeper, office manager, secretary, you name it! With the birth of this new phase of my practice, the work load and learning curve was getting so big, that something had to give.

I met Erin Blaskie of Business Services, ETC. and she has been a dream come true. She designed my new Wordpress blog-site, does graphic arts, press releases, article distribution, e-book design and layout and so much more! Surrendering to the fact that I needed to delegate has freed me up to do the things that only I can and want to do! I buy 5 hour blocks of time when I need them and she’s just an email away, always positive and with the highest of professional standards. Thank you Erin!

If you’re ready to take your business or practice to the next level, creating the physical and mental space to do it is vital. I know it can feel like a big plunge, but it is oh so worth it!
